Welcome to the August 2005 Trilegiant Affiliate Newsletter.

Be sure to check in on the Trilegiant Affiliate Blog for the latest updates.

This month:

  1. What's New with the Program?
  2. Chaos in Affiliate Marketing
  3. Affiliate Tip - Affiliate Coupon Code Network
  4. Take My eComXpo Commission, Please
  5. Affiliate Tip - Opt-in E-mail Incentives

1. What's New with the Program?

Apply to the Trilegiant Affiliate ProgramLast month, the most effective banner was promoting Trilegiant's Great Fun membership club.

The button for Great Fun that includes a Digital Camera offer has had an EPC on CJ of $46.15 so far this month. Overall, the 120x90 banners are performing better than any other size banner.

Try them out on your site or in your newsletter. If you'd like me to write some copy (let me know how many words) or you need anything else, feel free to contact me.

Also, I'll be at CJU next month, and I'd love to meet you there. Let me know if you will be at CJU and we can set up some time to meet.

2. Chaos in Affiliate Marketing

The following is what Hokuto Kasai of the JAPAN.AffiliateSogo.com had to say in response the the question, What is wrong with affiliate marketing and how can it be improved?

My answer is that there are so many people who do NOT care about what is wrong, or what is right with affiliate marketing.

Win-Win relationship is considered as one of the most important attributes of affiliate program, but in this real world, how many of affiliates and EC merchants are trying to build real Win-Win relationship?

In Japan, most affiliates focus on how to maximize their income, and most EC merchants focus on how to maximize their profit.

Their thoughts are understandable, but how to maximize the number does not lead to the success of affiliate market.

3. Affiliate Tip - Affiliate Coupon Code Network

Some of the most successful affiliates are making their money by sharing coupon codes and having their visitors go through affiliate links to make the purchase.

In the past, the big coupon sites have been run with complicated databases and custom programming. This made it difficult for most affiliates to compete in the coupon area.

But a new service called CouponFeeder.com is making it a whole lot easier for any affiliate to promote affiliate programs with coupon codes.

4. Take My eComXpo Commission, Please

Experience eComXpo, the Virtual Tradeshow for eCommerce Marketers being held online October 6-8, 2005.

The first 500 paid registrants will receive a gift box filled with tradeshow collectables.

And this time around, in addition to the concentration on affiliate marketing, there is also a search engine marketing track.

This event is really coming together with Platinum Sponsors such as CJ, Google, LinkShare, Performics and Yahoo. And they've got a top rate list of speakers covering all aspects of eCommerce marketing.

My affiliate resource, AffiliateTip.com, is a Gold Sponsor, and I've arranged for a 20% discount on registration when you go through me (in lieu of receiving a referral fee).

5. Affiliate Tip - Opt-in E-mail Incentives

You've got an e-mail newsletter for your site, and it grows from day to day, but you want to see more people subscribe.

It's a common problem with an uncommon solution. Sure, you could tweak the newsletter, add distribution by RSS, increase or decrease the frequency, but those things are not going to move the needle so much (actually, RSS might).

The key to increasing your opt-in e-mail circulation is to have some added value that your competition does not have when people subscribe.

What you should do is provide an incentive for people to opt-in to your e-mail newsletter. One good, low-cost incentive is to provide a free, relevant e-book to people when they subscribe.
